Bałtyk 2 & 3 gain momentum as offshore installation phase approaches
Offshore wind farms developed by Equinor and Polenergia – Bałtyk 2 and Bałtyk 3 – are entering the phase of direct preparations for offshore installation works. In Vlissingen, at the facilities of Smulders, the topside – the main structure of the offshore substation for Bałtyk 3 – has just been rolled out of the production hall and positioned in the outdoor yard. The structure measures 51 × 38 × 43 meters, comparable to a 15-storey building.
Nearby, the topside for Bałtyk 2 is also in place. Both substation topsides, each weighing approximately 3,700 tonnes, are currently undergoing outfitting works and will be transported offshore in line with the installation schedule.

This year, at one of the world’s largest and most significant defence and security industry exhibitions, DSEI, Latvia will be represented with its largest-ever delegation of participants, with drone manufacturers especially to the fore. The Latvian business delegation will showcase aerial, ground, surface, and underwater drones, as well as anti-drone systems, while the Latvian company VicTec will stage water drone demonstration shows on the River Thames during the exhibition.

CINEA has signed a grant agreement worth €645.2 million under the CEF Energy programme to support the Danish side of the Bornholm Energy Island (BEI) Hybrid Offshore Interconnector – one of Europe’s most ambitious and strategic energy infrastructure projects.
The grant signature ceremony took place on 4 September 2025 in Copenhagen, during the Informal meeting of energy ministers, marking a significant step towards a more resilient, interconnected, and sustainable European energy system.
Connecting offshore wind to millions of consumers
Led by Energinet (Denmark) and 50Hertz (Germany), this innovative and visionary project will connect multiple wind farms together via a single offshore energy hub on the Danish island of Bornholm in the Baltic Sea. From there, 3 GW of offshore green electricity will be brought onshore and distributed through Denmark and Germany, helping to power millions of homes and businesses with clean electricity.
To make this possible, CEF Energy is funding the construction of two new converter stations (one on Bornholm and one in Zealand), and the installation of an extensive submarine cable system of around 200 kilometres, complemented by a 17-kilometre onshore connection, between Zealand and Bornholm. This infrastructure will serve as a crucial bridge between offshore generation and consumers, enabling electricity to flow flexibly where it is needed most. This innovative setup supports energy security, price stability, and the integration of renewable energy on a much larger scale than before.

The joint Danish-German Bornholm Energy Island project is moving from the planning and development stage to the implementation stage. The two transmission system operators Energinet (Denmark) and 50Hertz (Germany) placed a joint order with Siemens Energy for the construction and turnkey delivery of four converter systems in total as well as other technical components on the Danish island Bornholm and the Danish island Zealand as well as on the German mainland. This marks the end of a six-month transition phase during which the joint project had to be paused due to the need for political regulation between the two countries involved.
The contract that is now concluded between Energinet, 50Hertz and Siemens Energy covers the design, the completion, transport, installation, testing as well as commissioning of the systems by the mid-2030s.

Energinet, the Danish transmission system operator (TSO), has selected NKT to provide the 525 kV high-voltage direct current (HVDC) on- and offshore power cable systems for the Danish connection to the Bornholm Energy Island. The contract has a value of around EUR 650m and comprises design, manufacturing, and installation of a power cable system comprising 200 km offshore route and 16.8 km onshore route.

More than 400 house modules are currently being unloaded from Frihamnen Port in Stockholm. The modules arrived by ship directly from Malaysia and have been stored for some time in the port, which is a strategic hub for further transport to the final destinations Enköping and Nyköping.
The centrally located inner-city quays are an important complement to the Stockholm region’s major freight ports, which include Stockholm Norvik Port, Port of Nynäshamn and Port of Kapellskär. By utilizing Frihamnen for project cargo, customers benefit from increased flexibility and additional transport options.

Estonia continues to adopt AI and build new success stories powered by it. This week, Estonian voice coaching platform Vocal Image raised $3.6M in seed funding to expand its AI-powered communication training app, writes TechCrunch. The funding was led by Paris-based Educapital, with participation from Estonian Specialist VC and German Generations Fund.
The investment will fuel expansion and new language localisations beyond the app’s current English, Spanish, German, French, Ukrainian, and Russian offerings.

The Port of Gdansk has joined the European ports operating regular, direct container connections with the United States. Thus, it strengthens its position on the map of global logistics, becoming a real alternative to the largest ports in Northern Europe.
Gdansk was included in the transatlantic rotation, strengthening the MSC network between Poland and the US. The Latvian airline airBaltic will begin direct scheduled flights between Riga and Oulu – the European Capital of Culture 2026 – in March 2026. The return flights will operate five days a week (Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays) starting from 29 March until the end of October 2026.
