Underwriting journalism shows your support for the topics that matter to the Baltic Sea region

Interested in a unique way to market your business while also supporting journalism about the Baltic Sea region?

Consider underwriting a Hanseatic article or reporting topic.

Underwriting, in contrast to general advertising, is direct or indirect financial support for an individual article or reporting about a specific topic.

Although an underwriter has no influence over an article’s topic, angle, tone or sources, underwritten articles clearly acknowledge the underwriter’s support.

This is in contrast to The Hanseatic’s outside content section, which includes content produced by a sponsor and republished for a fee.

For The Hanseatic, underwriters are an invaluable source of support for its coverage.

As an underwriter, your contribution demonstrates your business’s interest in the Baltic Sea region and journalism in general to an exceptionally devoted audience.

Underwriting allows you to reach an audience in an environment that is otherwise focused solely on journalism. In such an environment, a minimal and non-intrusive underwriting message speaks volumes.

Lastly, underwriting The Hanseatic is good for your image and good for my bottom line.

Policies (not exhaustive)

Conflicts of interest
Potential conflicts of interest or perceived conflicts of interest will be dealt with on a case-by-case basis. My guiding principle is whether a reasonable reader could doubt my ability to remain impartial.

Controversial issues and entities
Decisions about controversial issues and entities will be made on a case-by-case basis, again, applying good faith judgment and “reasonable reasonable” thinking.

Politics
The Hanseatic will not accept sponsorship from candidates for political office, campaign committees or from organisations whose names by themselves might raise a political, controversial or divisive issue.
