Detection Technology advances AIDA to customer evaluation, setting a new PCCT data-transmission benchmark

Detection Technology, a global leader in X‑ray detector solutions, announces that its pioneering all-in-one CT detector system, AIDA, has advanced into customer evaluation, a major step toward its commercial rollout in early 2026. The move into evaluations also highlights AIDA’s mission to solve one of photon-counting CT’s (PCCT) biggest challenges: managing and transmitting massive data flows. Over the past year, we have implemented significant improvements to our cargo handling capacity. The latest project – the widening of the shore ramp – was commissioned today 1st Dec 2025.
This upgrade enables cargo handling through three ramps on Enabler vessels instead of the previous two. Along with the 9-meter ramp extension, we also reinforced and expanded the quay area’s erosion protection, improving the long-term durability of the structures.
During this past autumn, the port’s timber storage yard was expanded by 8,000 square meters to meet the growing demand for timber storage.

Insta has landed a significant and exciting assignment to deliver the main automation system as well as process electrical and automation installations for Fazer’s new chocolate factory in Lahti. Operations are set to start in 2028.This project represents the largest investment in Fazer’s history and one of the most notable undertakings in the history of Finland’s food industry.
The delivery includes the factory’s main automation system, which integrates all production equipment and processes into one unified platform. Insta is also responsible for process electrical and automation installations, ensuring seamless commissioning and reliable operation. The project began immediately after signing the contract and is scheduled for completion by the end of 2027. Insta’s delivery phase will conclude in early 2028, guaranteeing a smooth and uninterrupted production start-up. Close collaboration will continue throughout the entire project until the factory is fully operational.
Construction work on the new factory, covering approximately 33,300 square meters, started in summer 2025. During the construction phase, the site will employ hundreds of professionals, with an estimated workload exceeding 500,000 working hours. The new production facility will be highly electrified and automated, and its comprehensive energy recycling system will make it CO₂ emission-free in terms of its own energy consumption. Additionally, the factory aims to achieve BREEAM environmental certification. Operations are expected to begin in 2028.

The European H2 Valley of the Year Award honours exceptional achievements in the development and implementation of Hydrogen Valleys. Criteria for the evaluation are breakthroughs in project implementation, outstanding efforts in covering the value chain, hydrogen volume produced/used in the valley, the stakeholders’ landscape and involvement, as well as the innovation level. The award was handed out at Hydrogen Research and Innovation Days.
BalticSeaH2 builds the first significant, cross-border hydrogen valley in Europe. The goal is to create an integrated hydrogen economy around the Baltic Sea to enable self-sufficiency of energy and minimise carbon emissions from different industries. Combining local areas into a broader valley supports creating a genuinely integrated, interregional hydrogen economy, which has not been done previously on this scale in Europe.
The main valley of the project is located between Finland and Estonia. The area between Finland and Estonia is an optimal location for a cross-border hydrogen market. The necessary infrastructure – natural gas pipelines, electricity grids, and active marine traffic – already exist in the Gulf of Finland. The project will support the reduction of the carbon emissions from existing marine traffic. In addition, Gasgrid Vetyverkot is already preparing hydrogen infrastructure: Nordic-Baltic Hydrogen Corridor, Baltic Sea Hydrogen Collector and Nordic Hydrogen Route enable strong growth for hydrogen economy and hydrogen markets in the Baltic Sea region.

It is the first of its kind in Finland: in the spring, an industrial-scale green hydrogen production plant went into operation in Harjavalta, Southwest Finland. It was built by the Finnish company P2X Solutions Oy, a pioneer in green hydrogen and Power-to-X technology. The company additionally plans to build further production plants in Joensuu and Oulu, aiming for a total hydrogen production capacity of 1 GW by 2031.
The arrival of the electrolysis plant in Harjavalta marked an important milestone for the production of green hydrogen.
The electrolysis system for hydrogen production in Harjavalta originates from Germany. More precisely from Dresden from Sunfire SE, a specialist in electrolysers.

The German company Hy2gen has secured a strategic site in Vihreäsaari, at the Port of Oulu in northern Finland, for the development of a new facility to produce renewable hydrogen and synthetic fuels. They are used for decarbonising hard-to-abate sectors, such as the maritime and aviation industries.
The proposed 200 MW plant will position Oulu as the largest hub for synthetic fuel production in the Baltic Sea Region, based on the number of Power-to-X (PtX/P2X) projects currently in development.

Finland could accelerate clinical trials through a “one-stop shop” model and shared systems and practices. This is outlined in Sitra’s publication FinTrials – National Framework for Clinical Drug Trials (summary in English).
Finland has long been known for its high-quality healthcare and strong research expertise. However, the number of clinical drug trials conducted in recent years has clearly declined. Reasons for this development include fragmented operating models, insufficient national coordination, and slow and complex processes.
“To strengthen Finland’s position as an attractive country for clinical drug trials, we need more cooperation and national-level coordination. Many other European countries, especially the Nordic countries, have shown that national cooperation is an effective way to increase the number of clinical drug trials,” emphasises Petri Lehto, leader of Sitra’s DigiHealth project.

CFinnair continues to grow its European network and adds a total of 12 new destinations to its offering for summer 2026 from its Helsinki hub. Routes to Alta, Catania, Florence, Kos and Valencia were announced earlier this year, and Finnair now opens to sale flights to Kuressaare in Estonia, Luxembourg, Stavanger in Norway, Thessaloniki in Greece, Tirana in Albania, Turin in Italy and Umeå in Sweden.
Finnair also responds to the demand for Lapland and starts direct flights from three European cities – Brussels, Paris, and Zurich – to Finnish Lapland in winter 2026. These direct flights complement Finnair’s broad offering of daily connections to Lapland via its Helsinki hub.
With these additions, Finnair’s network for 2026 comprises of a total of 93 European destinations, 11 Asian destinations, seven North American destinations (including Toronto, which opens in summer 2026), and two destinations in the Middle East.

P2X Solutions is supplying green hydrogen to Finland’s first synthetic kerosene production pilot, which manufactures emission-free aviation fuel, or eSAF. The pilot, led by technology company Liquid Sun, involves Finnair, Finavia, Fortum, and ABB.
Green hydrogen and biogenic carbon dioxide offer the opportunity to decarbonise sectors such as aviation, where direct electrification is not feasible. eSAF made from hydrogen can be introduced into existing aircraft using the current infrastructure without major changes. Hydrogen enables a rapid and large-scale transition to cleaner aviation.
“The production of eSAF is a huge opportunity for Finland. Across Europe, approximately 46 million tons of aviation fuel are used annually, and Finland has an excellent starting point for eSAF production,” says Herkko Plit, founder and CEO of P2X Solutions. “We have access to abundant emission-free electricity, clean water, biogenic carbon dioxide, and a growing amount of expertise in the production of new-generation fuels.”
