German energy group Danpower invests in Estonia, citing good business climate
German energy company Danpower Group is acquiring a majority stake in SW Energia OÜ, one of Estonia’s leading district heating providers, says the official press-release. Danpower Group is a Potsdam-based energy company specializing in district heating and renewable energy solutions for municipalities, industries, and residential areas across Germany and now Estonia.
The deal, signed on January 27, awaits approval from the Estonian Competition Authority and aims to accelerate the transition to renewable energy in Estonia’s heating sector.

Today, 29 January, the Secretary General of the Estonian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Jonatan Vseviov, the State Secretary of the German Federal Foreign Office, Bernhard Kotsch and the Vice-Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania, Vidmantas Verbickas, signed a four-party cooperation memorandum in Tallinn aimed at strengthening ties between the countries in the fields of strategic communication and media literacy. The agreement was signed ahead of the meeting also by the Latvian State Secretary Andžejs Vilumsons, with Latvia represented at the meeting by the Inspector General of the Latvian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ilgvars Kļava. The agreement is an updated version of the cooperation memorandum first concluded between the foreign ministries of the four countries in 2015.
Secretary General Vseviov emphasised that in the context of growing foreign influence activities, disinformation and hostile propaganda, it is crucial to strengthen societal resilience. He noted that closer cooperation between like-minded countries is key to protecting and developing the democratic information space.

A new special vessel has arrived in the work harbour in Rødbyhavn. It is the large floating crane “Hebo Lift 9”. The floating crane will place the enormous anchors on the seabed, to which the immersion pontoon IVY will be attached with long steel wires in connection with the immersion of the first tunnel element this spring.
A total of eight anchors weighing 500 tonnes each will be used. The anchors are shaped like large boxes and are lowered onto the seabed. After the immersion of an element, the anchors can then be picked up again by the crane and reused in connection with the immersion of the next element.

By signing a contract governing the legally compliant cooperation for the construction and operation of the two offshore platforms required for the Gennaker offshore wind farm, transmission system operator 50Hertz and wind farm developer Skyborn Renewables (Skyborn) have cleared the way for commissioning the entire system by mid‑2028. The agreement resolves legal and regulatory uncertainties and sets a pioneering precedent for grid connection of an offshore wind farm located in territorial waters.
The Gennaker offshore wind farm, comprising 63 turbines of the 15‑MW class, will be built in German territorial waters (within the so‑called 12-nautical-mile zone) off the coast of the Fischland-Darß-Zingst peninsula. The project received full approval from the state of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania in December last year. Installation of the wind turbines is scheduled to begin in late summer 2027. The cooperation agreement between 50Hertz and Skyborn now concluded represents an essential addition and prerequisite for the planned commissioning of the grid connection system in July 2028.

Denmark and Germany say they are ready to split the cost of any public funding needed to make sure that Bornholm Energy Island becomes a reality. Essentially a set of offshore windfarms that would double Denmark’s offshore wind capacity, the project, if completed, would send power to 4.5 million Danish and German consumers via its namesake island. More than that, say boosters, it provides a model for other mega energy projects that lawmakers are more keen on than investors.
Locally, the news has been well received. Even the healthiest of economies would find it hard to be unhappy about being the focal point of a multinational project whose final tab is expected to be over €4 billion. Bornholm, meanwhile, is still striken from the implosion of its fishing industry in the 1980s. But while a project of this sort will be good for its budding offshore industry, particularly if an associated industry estate comes to fruition, local lawmakers are still treading carefully: energy firms have yet to deem the project worth putting money into, while those living near the 111 hectare converter station will need be placated (read as: compensated). . Beyond that, there is irony of spoiling a chunk of pristine coastline of Denmark’s most popular tourism destination in the name of clean energy. If being a Danish island is a challenge these days, being a green one is doubly so.

RWE and Aneo, a Nordic renewables player, have signed a transaction agreement concerning RWE’s Swedish wind activities. This includes RWE’s onshore wind development pipeline (1.8 gigawatts), its onshore wind farms with a total operational capacity of 124 megawatts, the operational Karehamn offshore wind farm (48 megawatts), part of RWE’s third-party onshore service business, and the relevant development, operations and offshore teams assigned to the transferred projects and assets. Both parties have agreed not to disclose the purchase price. Completion of this transaction is subject to customary approvals and is expected in the first quarter of 2026.

Preparations for the special vessel IVY, which will play a key role in the construction of the Fehmarnbelt tunnel, are nearing completion. The approval of the immersion pontoon is almost two years behind the original schedule.
In the coming weeks, the first part of the tunnel trench will be prepared for immersion. The trench is being adapted to the elements, and the contractor is laying a gravel bed to create an even base for the tunnel elements.
