The other Baltic railway A Tallinn–Vilnius rail link takes form
For years now, rail buffs and those keen on closer EU integration have had their eyes firmly, if nervously, fixed on Rail Baltica, a planned high-speed railway connecting the three Baltic states that is far behind schedule and way over budget. Somewhat overlooked amid that drama has been the steady progress of another, less prestigious railway project connecting Tallinn, Tartu, Rīga and Vilnius via existing railways.
Since last January, when service began on a limited basis—and requiring transfers in each of the three countries—it has transported some 16,000 passengers, well above expectations. That is due to get a bump this year: an extension of service that began on Monday means most of the line can now be travelled without a transfer. A limited number of departures and long travel times will make it less of an option for long-distance travellers, and, even for regional travel, coaches will still be a competitive option, but southern Estonia and northern Latvia in particular are hoping that more infrastructure ties will give rise to better economic ties, spurring growth. Tartu, Estonia’s second-largest city, has long felt that a direct connection to someplace other than Tallinn was overdue.
Detractors point out that the €2 million subsidy the line will require is much more than other lines get, and that standing up the service will require a further €400,000 initial investment. Public officials expect the subsidy to fall as passenger numbers grow, but the are concerns that there may not be enough passengers for it ever to become viable. For now, the trains will run, but they may not get much time.

MyDello, the digital freight forwarding platform dedicated to simplifying global trade, today announced it has successfully closed a €3.1 million funding round. The round was led by the Icelandic fund Frumtak Ventures, with significant follow-on participation from early investor Superhero Capital.
This new capital will be used to accelerate MyDello’s mission to transform the deeply fragmented and antiquated global logistics industry. The investment will fuel the development of advanced AI-powered solutions, drive strategic expansion into new European markets, and further enhance MyDello’s digital platform, which has already onboarded over 12,500 businesses.
The global logistics industry, valued at an estimated $6 trillion annually, has long been a bottleneck for businesses worldwide. For decades, it has operated on outdated systems involving faxes, phone calls, and mountains of physical paperwork, creating a frustratingly opaque and inefficient environment. MyDello was founded to solve this problem head-on by providing a single, digital-first platform that makes shipping goods simple, transparent, and efficient for everyone.

Read MoreTurku–Stockholm Green Shipping Corridor among the global front-runners

The Turku–Stockholm Green Shipping Corridor is one of the few routes where ambitious goals have already translated into concrete action. This is highlighted in the newly published Annual Progress Report on Green Shipping Corridors 2025, which tracks the global development of green maritime transport corridors.
In February 2024, the Ports of Turku and Stockholm together with Viking Line signed a cooperation agreement to develop a green maritime corridor between the two cities. The aim is to achieve a fully fossil-free and carbon‑neutral corridor by 2035, making it one of the Green Shipping Corridors defined under the Clydebank Declaration. The route was chosen as a pilot due to its high traffic volumes and its location in an environmentally sensitive archipelago. The cooperation provides a platform for solutions that can progressively reduce emissions and promote sustainable maritime transport.
Of the 84 global initiatives identified in the report, only four have so far reached the so‑called implementation stage, in which emission‑reducing measures are deployed in regular operations. Two of these are located in the Baltic Sea region, including the Turku–Stockholm route, which is regarded as one of the most advanced internationally.

Latvia is preparing for another significant step in the modernisation of its rail transport. Autotransporta direkcija (ATD) announces that Škoda Group has been awarded with the contract to supply up to 16 battery electric multiple units (BEMUs) for regional transport.
The value of the contract comprising of the base delivery of nine trains, an option for seven additional vehicles, spare parts and training is nearly EUR 160 million. The first vehicles are scheduled to be deployed in the first half of 2029. Following the successful launch of battery trains in the Czech Republic at the turn of 2024 and 2025 and the signing of a contract for up to 36 battery trains for Slovakia, this is another order for the Škoda Group for this type of vehicle.
The units will also be the first Škoda Group battery-powered vehicles designed for a 1,520 mm gauge. They represent the next evolution of the successful platform of single-deck regional trains developed for the Baltic markets. The project is financed by the state budget of Latvia and EU Cohesion Funds, which are supporting the development of modern zero-emission mobility in Latvia.

In the framework of a continuous dialogue with the Italian Ambassador to Poland and his staff, on November 4, 2025, Finnlines Line Manager and Managing Director, Rederi AB Nordö-Link, Antonio Raimo discussed in Warsaw the shipping company’s expanding operations and investments in Poland. Finnlines has operated routes between Poland and Finland for three decades and, last year, launched a new connection for freight and passengers to Sweden.
“Our new investments have enabled us to expand our presence in Poland with additional offices and larger local teams. We are also pleased to further strengthen and broaden our connections across the region. We also had the opportunity to discuss the current and upcoming challenges of the shipping industry, both in Poland and across the Baltic Sea, to ensure the continued development and success of Poland’s maritime network and the security of supply,” says Antonio Raimo, Finnlines Line Manager.
Strong growth on Poland–Sweden route
This summer, passenger numbers on Finnlines’ route between Świnoujście and Malmö rose by 38% compared to the same period last year, highlighting the growing interest in travelling across the sea between the two countries.

Aampere, an E-mobility startup, has closed a €1.6 million funding round led by Trind Ventures, with participation from Gimic Ventures and several experienced business angels from the mobility sector. Aampere will use the funding to accelerate product development and expand its European market presence beyond Scandinavia and the Benelux region.
The European market for used electric vehicles remains highly fragmented and largely analog, characterized by opaque processes, manual handling, and isolated national solutions. Aampere is breaking these outdated structures by creating a fully digital, Europe-wide platform for selling used electric vehicles. With this, the startup is establishing a sustainable and efficient circular economy for e-mobility and driving Europe’s electrification forward.
Aampere provides a digital platform where private and commercial sellers can sell their used electric vehicles across Europe within 48 hours.

Read MoreFrom Vilnius to Europe: How Fleet Digitalization Is Shaping the Future of Mobility

The strength of modern mobility and logistics lies in its ability to efficiently move goods, services, and data. Europe’s competitiveness relies on this kind of innovation, but it currently faces the challenges of fragmented technology, rising operational expenses, and a shrinking workforce.
Modern transport and logistics operations, from supply chains to digital platforms, are drowning in data. Yet integration remains limited, leaving many systems and teams working in isolation. Fleet digitalization — the transformation of traditional, manual fleet management into a connected, data-driven system through technologies like telematics, software, and AI — is becoming a key process for restoring control and efficiency by connecting data, systems, and people into one coordinated ecosystem.
Lithuania is leading this charge as one of the fastest-moving hubs for logistics and telematics. Many of these pain points were echoed at the Telematics & Connected Mobility Conference 2025 in Vilnius, hosted by Gurtam, where international industry leaders and engineers explored how smarter integration of devices, software, and data strategies can enhance Europe’s competitiveness.
