RB Rail AS successfully passes ISO 9001 and ISO 27001 certification audits
In early November, RB Rail AS concluded the final stages of the Integrated Management System audit conducted by Bureau Veritas. During the closing meetings, the auditors confirmed that the organisation fully meets the requirements of ISO 9001 for Quality Management Systems and ISO/IEC 27001 for Information Security Management Systems.
The successful audit outcomes demonstrate RB Rail AS’s strong commitment to maintaining consistent quality standards, effective risk management practices, and robust protection of information assets. These certifications support the implementation of structured processes, clearly defined responsibilities, and a culture of continuous improvement across the organisation.
Nataļja Voļaka, Head of Corporate Governance and Quality Department, commented: “Achieving ISO 9001 certification is an important milestone for RB Rail AS. It confirms that our quality management system is built on clear processes, accountability and continuous improvement. I would like to thank all colleagues who contributed to this result through their daily work and commitment. Rail Baltica—the multi-billion‑euro, European‑gauge rail line linking Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania with the rest of the EU—remains on schedule for completion in 2030, the prime ministers from the three countries said on Friday. Meeting in Rīga, they provided a status report for the project and pledged that they would devote the time and money needed for it to be completed (and promised to get as much EU funding as they could get their hands on).
The unwavering backing for the project is a reassurance; the problem is that it is necessary at all. All major infrastructure construction goes over time and over budget, but Rail Baltica is more than a matter of prestige. Like their decoupling from the Russian power grid earlier this year, its construction reiterates to Moscow that the Baltics are EU territory and would make it harder for the Kremlin to bring them back into its sphere of influence. Reports that Latvia was considering saving money by retaining the Russian gauge on its part of the railway may just have been rumour, but the seriousness of the situation cannot be exaggerated.

On 1 December 2025, European Transport Corridor Coordinator Mario Mauro visited Riga to review Latvia’s transport priorities and developments within the TEN-T network. The visit focused on Latvia’s role in the newly defined European transport corridors, established under the TEN-T Regulation that took effect on 18 July 2024. Latvia participates in two of the EU’s nine corridors: the North Sea–Baltic Sea Corridor and the Baltic Sea–Black Sea–Aegean Sea Corridor.
Mauro met with representatives of Latvian Railways, RB Rail AS and European Railway Lines to discuss the Rail Baltica project, current rail sector developments and the impact of geopolitical conditions on freight volumes. Although freight has declined, passenger numbers continue to rise. Discussions highlighted the importance of military mobility, infrastructure upgrades, higher train speeds and a new rail link to Riga Airport.
Progress on the cross-border Rail Baltica project was reviewed, with Latvia stressing the need for continued Connecting Europe Facility funding beyond 2028 to meet the EU goal of completing the core TEN-T network by 2030. The parties noted positive developments in EU Council negotiations, with a partial agreement expected on 15 December.

Rail Baltica has concluded its participation in the Rail Live 2025 conference in Madrid with an extensive programme of meetings, discussions, and presentations focused on advancing the project’s technical and strategic objectives. Over two days, representatives took part in panel discussions addressing leadership in the rail sector, infrastructure resilience, and financing models, as well as delivered presentations on virtual design, BIM utilisation, and Rail Baltica’s electrification strategy.
The delegation also held numerous scheduled meetings with industry organisations to exchange knowledge on technological solutions, procurement planning, and future cooperation possibilities as the project moves toward implementation and procurement milestones.
Participation in Rail Live provided Rail Baltica with an opportunity to share project progress, gather insights on emerging trends in the rail sector, and reinforce its position within the European railway community.

Rail Baltica took part in the IE Center for Transport Economics & Infrastructure Management’s high-level round table on “The Role of Railways in a New European Defence Policy” on November 11.
Representatives from European organizations, defence ministries, and the transportation industry came together to talk about how railways might help Europe achieve its security and defence objectives. Lieutenant General Luis Lanchares of NATO, Herald Ruijters, Deputy Director General for Defence, Industry, and Space at the European Commission, and Julio Gómez-Pomar, President of the IE Center for Transport Economics & Infrastructure Management, were among the speakers.
Marius Narmontas, Chief Operations Officer and Management Board Member of RB Rail AS, participated in the panel discussion on “Railways and Transportation for Defence” on behalf of Rail Baltica. He described how the project’s architecture allows for dual-use infrastructure that supports both military and civilian logistics demands.

At the beginning of September, Riga hosted the European Hydrogen Valleys Investment Forum (EHVIF TechTour 2025), reaffirming hydrogen as one of the central themes for Europe’s future energy landscape. The event gathered more than 220 participants – including start-ups, investors, corporate representatives, experts, and policymakers.
In total, 40 start-ups and hydrogen valley projects presented their innovative ideas, while more than 40 investors and industry leaders shared their perspectives on developing and financing clean energy solutions. The event concluded with eight companies being recognized by the expert jury as Top Presenters.
Special attention in the programme was devoted to discussions on hydrogen production, storage, distribution, and use in mobility and industry, as well as on governance and cooperation models. One of the key highlights was the pitching session, where the H2Value project was presented – the first cross-border initiative to build a green hydrogen value chain between Latvia and Estonia. The project’s goal is to gradually establish the entire chain, from production and storage to distribution and real-life application in transport.

The joint venture RB Rail AS, responsible for implementing the Rail Baltica global project, announces changes in its Management Board. Effective 1 September 2025, the Board will be composed of five members: Marko Kivila (Chairperson and Chief Executive Office), Marius Narmontas (Chief Operating Officer), Emilien Dang (Chief Technical Officer), Thierry Boussillon (Chief Programme Management Officer), and Ojārs Daugavietis, who joins as Chief Financial Officer. The Management Board provides strategic leadership and ensures the coordinated delivery of the Rail Baltica project across the three Baltic States.
According to Arenijus Jackus, Chairperson of the RB Rail’s Supervisory Board, the Rail Baltica project and the joint venture have faced notable transformation over the past two years considering external challenges and new geopolitical and economic realities. This has required adjustments to project planning, optimisation of solutions and implementation steps, optimization of the joint venture and the whole project management set-up as well as stronger risk and stakeholder management.

Today the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Communications in Estonia announced a major advancement in the project’s development. Minister of Economic Affairs and Industry, Erkki Keldo, has signed a decree confirming the route plan for the Pärnumaa section of Rail Baltica, enabling construction to begin in a region where progress had been halted since a Supreme Court ruling partially annulled the previous plan in 2020.
“Rail Baltica is a strategically important infrastructure project for Estonia and the entire Baltic region. It will create a modern and environmentally friendly transport connection with the European railway network, reduce road traffic congestion, and foster economic development while also serving as a backbone for military mobility on NATO’s eastern flank,” said Minister Keldo.

Executives from Tyréns, one of Sweden’s largest design companies, and its Lithuanian branch have visited the Rail Baltica construction sites. The meeting with representatives of LTG Infra, the company implementing Rail Baltica in Lithuania, have discussed the ongoing and planned works. LTG Infra is currently focusing on securing design capacity and invites both Lithuanian and international design companies to work in Lithuania and contribute to the Rail Baltica project. According to Vytis Žalimas, CEO of LTG Infra, one of the biggest challenges for Rail Baltica now is to secure design resources for the planning of future high-speed railway sections.
